Dave Adkins not only impresses listeners with his powerful lead vocals, but he contributed three original songs on the album including “Heartstrings”, “Get ‘Em Up” and the impressive “Rio.” Other songs include: the title cut “That’s Just the Way I Roll” by Terry Herd, Steve Gulley & Tim Stafford; “Laura Mae” by Mark “Brink” Brinkman; “Don’t They Know He’s Watching” by Steve Gulley & Tim Stafford; “Chasin’ A Dream” by Mark “Brink” Brinkman & Dale Pyatt; and “The Storm” by Steve Gulley. Dave Adkins can also be heard on another new album, GOD DIDN’T CHOOSE SIDES: CIVIL WAR TRUE STORIES ABOUT REAL PEOPLE released earlier this month. He performs the song, The River Man,” that some are calling one of the standout tracks from the album.  In a new review Parcbench wrote, “If you are ready to hear what just might be the next bluegrass artist that you can say you discovered before all your friends did, check out track 11 (The River Man, sung by Dave Adkins). The song spins the tale of a freed slave who ran a secret freedom train by dark of night to help escaped slaves find the freedom that was so central to the struggle.”

David Akins is joined by the talents of Kenny O’Quinn, Danny Ray Stiltner, Wesley Wolfe and Matt Cruby.  Be sure to check out their website and catch a live show in your area.

Fans heard the band perform their original song, “Justified,” in the opening scene of the March 2, 2011 episode of the FX Network’s TV drama, JUSTIFIED. The song actually came about as a result of an invitation to perform for the writers and producers of JUSTIFIED, while in Harland gathering information for the show.  With only 24 hours to spare before their performance, CUMBERLAND RIVER got together and composed “Justified” in a style that certainly fits the show.   Since that time, five additional songs from their 2010 self released album have been included on the Wednesday, April 6, 2011 episode that airs at 10:00 PM on the FX Network. With fans hearing six original songs performed by CUMBERLAND RIVER on JUSTIFIED that reaches an average of 7.2 million total viewers per week, certainly has music fans excited about their upcoming new album.

The band’s upcoming new project will include a collection of heart felt songs and haunting ballads written by the band and their family members taken from their life experiences and campfire stories from Harlan County. “We feel this is a dream come true for the band. We could never have imagined we would be on a major label working with some of the best bands in bluegrass, and working with such an awesome producer as STEVE GULLEY. We are truly humbled that Rural Rhythm is willing to take a chance on bunch of country boys from the mountains of Harlan, Kentucky” —CUMBERLAND RIVER.
